This pair of earrings is an abstraction of the two "sides" of the sidewalk. After my previous research project, 'I see you, do you see me?' I saw a line in societal space between the homeless community and students walking past; how most public choose to ignore those asking for help right next to them. I decided to further explore this narrative by creating a pair of earrings representing the two sides.
The right earring being structured and enclosed represents the lifestyle many students who attend my school maintain. The luxury of knowing where we will be getting our next meal or where we will spend the night. In contrast, the left earring random and sparse represents the lack of stability and structure that comes with being homeless.
Through the differences and similarities in design, I ask you to look at the earrings as a pair and how their design may reflect the relationship they represent.
